December is the month of sharing and giving with family and friends to create lifetime memories. Unfortunately, the reality for many of our community members is that the holidays are when they feel most left out, abandoned, and alone.

The Annual Spirit of Christmas Brunch benefits women, children and some men living in domestic violence, drug rehab and homeless shelters.

Since 2003, the California Families in Focus (CFF) Board of Directors, Associate Committee, local businesses and community organizations annually coordinate a drive to collect clothing (pajamas, socks, underwear, beanies, gloves, scarves), gift cards, personal items (cosmetics, etc.), and monetary donations for this special holiday event.

The Spirit of Christmas committee chooses a festive theme for the event and opens Santa’s Workshop where the children are busy elves making Christmas cards and presents (jewelry and picture frames) for their mothers and siblings.

The location overflows with bouncers, carnival games, snacks, photos with Santa, arts and crafts, and the unique experience of hearing the exciting roar of a motorcycle parade that delivers each child Christmas presents.

Meanwhile, their mommies attend an inspiring and empowering mini concert where local bands serenade them. Added entertainment includes a karaoke and dance contest, empowering speakers, awards presentation, and our own CFF deejay Donaldo Reed delighting the guests with their favorite songs. At the close of the brunch, each woman receives a “Self Esteem Love Basket” full of self-care items lovingly donated by our supporters.

CFF created this event to honor Angel Macias who is a survivor of domestic violence and to celebrate the women and children who took the steps necessary to live a healthy and happy life, free of drugs and alcohol, and abuse.

The mid-December occasion is held in a safe location not disclosed to the public to ensure the attendees’ safety.
